Surface
Also called AI surface, assistant surface.
A surface is one assistant you can be asked about — ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity — each answering the same question from its own index and its own model.
What we can add
Our own operating rule is that an unreachable surface contributes no rows, not rows of zero. Zero is a measurement; absence is the truth. A surface we never called cannot have observed anything, so it renders as “not measured” — which is why our reports name the surfaces they did not reach instead of averaging them silently into a score.
